Ledger Wraith
It keeps the building's accounts, and the accounts include you.
ghost · Challenge rating 5
Still alive. Nobody has ended it yet.
Behavior
It keeps the building's accounts, and the accounts include you. It manifests the specific unpaid thing of whoever it meets β the call never returned, the promise made at a bedside, the money, the apology. Fighting it is a bookkeeping error: the balance only moves when the debt does. Every entry it shows is accurate, which is the part people do not recover from.
Appearance
Sheets of paper organized into a roughly human shape. The columns are legible when it is still and rearrange when it moves. The handwriting is nobody's β not a style, the absence of one. The final column never has a figure in it, and it is always turned toward you.
Physical description
A human-sized figure of overlapping ledger sheets, edges curling, no face. Handwritten columns crawl its surface, reprinting themselves when it moves. Up close the paper is not paper: it is pale and finely pored, and the ink sits under the surface the way veins do. The rightmost column stays blank. It drifts with a dry, page-turning rustle.
Weaknesses
- settling the debt it shows (works per-debt)
- reading the record it emerged from
Resistances
- conventional weapons (paper resists)
- fire (produces more paper)
- denial β it grows when the debt is disputed
