Spore Walker
It walks the quad's perimeter at night with a stride nothing taught it — grown, not learned.
fungal host · Challenge rating 5
Still alive. Nobody has ended it yet.
Behavior
It walks the quad's perimeter at night with a stride nothing taught it — grown, not learned. It never hesitates; hesitation is a decision, and nothing in it is deciding. It approaches people to vent, and the cloud is the point: each release extends the colony's range, which now includes the dorm's air handling.
Appearance
A humanoid outline of dense fungal matter, grey-white plates in rows too regular to be an accident. There is no working face — the growth sealed it, or replaced it, and the distinction stopped mattering to whoever this was. Segmented bulbs along the spine flex and split in rhythm as it vents.
Physical description
Man-sized and human-shaped only in outline: mottled grey-brown fungal tissue ridged like bracket fungus, plates laid in precise symmetrical rows. The head is a smooth cap that sheds fine haze at each step. Under strong light, the plates at the throat move slightly out of time with the stride, as if something under them still keeps its own rhythm.
Weaknesses
- fire
- sealed breathing environments — unvented, the colony cannot claim ground
Resistances
- physical damage
- poison
