The Tendril Crawler
The tunnels' cable runs are not all cable.
aberrant growth · Challenge rating 6
Still alive. Nobody has ended it yet.
Behavior
The tunnels' cable runs are not all cable. It moves through wall voids and service chases, probing ahead with filaments the width of phone wire. It does not wound — it binds, patiently, and takes what it binds back through the access panels. The taken are not immediately harmed. Waiting to find out what happens next is the documented mistake.
Appearance
A braided mass of dark green and grey growth with the liquid coherence of something that never chose a shape. Individual filaments probe ahead of the body, reading doorframes and ankles with the same light touch. It pours around corners rather than turns them.
Physical description
A boneless bulk of braided vine-cable, damp and fibrous, bark-over-muscle to the touch, able to flatten to a hand's width to pass under doors. Dozens of finer tendrils feel ahead of it, patient as fingertips reading a face. Where it has fed, the walls hold a residue like rope-burn, at about the height of a held wrist.
