The Tide Specter
The flooded basement never fills. Soon that hardly matters.
spirit · Challenge rating 8
Still alive. Nobody has ended it yet.
Behavior
The flooded basement never fills; soon that hardly matters. Not a drowned person β the accumulated weight of what went under here and never came back up. Where it settles, enclosed air gains depth: lungs work, conviction doesn't. Up becomes an opinion, then a memory, then a thing other people used to have. It does not pursue; it occupies; the room does the rest.
Appearance
An indistinct mass of roiling dark translucence, moving with the slow inevitability of deep water. Around it the room refracts wrong β walls bow upward as if seen from below the surface, and the ceiling light acquires the wobble of light through fathoms.
Physical description
A vaguely humanoid seven-foot mass of dark, translucent water that never spills, edges refusing to resolve into limbs. The air within arm's reach carries pressure on the eardrums and the specific cold of deep places. Sound near it arrives slow and rounded, the way voices arrive through a pool wall.
Weaknesses
- spoken directions β naming up, down, or the way out aloud resets orientation
- fire β it thins where heat holds
Resistances
- physical weapons
- cold
- holding your breath β the drowning was never in the lungs
