The Vault Keeper
It catalogues. The criteria are unexplained, even by it.
construct · Challenge rating 8
Still alive. Nobody has ended it yet.
Behavior
It catalogues. The criteria are unexplained, even by it: wallets ignored, bus transfers taken; engagement rings ignored, one hearing aid lifted from a sleeper without waking her. Takings go into its torso cabinet β labeled, padded, kept better than its owners kept it. Retrieval is a classification dispute on its terms, including what you argue you are worth.
Appearance
A tall construct in brass-toned plate whose torso is a locked double-doored cabinet with no external latch. The hands are slender and articulated, made for careful handling; the fixed lens eyes track objects, and hold on them, and occasionally hold on a person the way they hold on objects.
Physical description
Roughly seven feet, riveted brass-toned plating, the torso a squared cabinet whose double doors seal without visible latch or hinge-play. Slender jointed fingers, precise as a watchmaker's. Behind the cabinet doors, sounds move when it walks β small, padded, well-kept sounds. The lens eyes assess everything once and some things twice.
Weaknesses
- presenting something it must classify as more significant than what it holds
- the flaw in its classification system β it can be shown, not told
Resistances
- theft β the response is immediate and total
- combat while it holds anything catalogued
